Silence, then she heard a door open and close. After that, lights began to go out over her head. She’d be completely in the dark soon if she didn’t let Dylan know she was here.<\/span><\/p>\n

She scooted to the side of the truck and looked down. Dylan stood next to the set of light switches by the entrance to the kitchen. The remaining light shone on his head, highlighting his dark hair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Damn, you are one fine looking man.<\/em> “Pssst.”<\/span><\/p>\n

He froze, looked around him. “Is someone here?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Pssst!” She waved one hand to draw his attention. “Up here.”<\/span><\/p>\n

His gaze swung her way. “Talia? What the hell are you doing up there?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I was sleeping until you moved the truck.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“You were sleeping<\/em>?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yeah. And hiding from Royce. I think that guy is part octo… octo…” She hiccupped. “That sea creature with all the arms.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Octopus.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yeah, that’s it.”<\/span><\/p>\n

She could see Dylan’s lips twitching. “Imbibed a bit too much vodka?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yeah, and I drank a lot, too.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Talia giggled once more. She should drink more often. Being plastered made her funny.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shaking his head, Dylan walked over to the ladder truck. “I think you’d better come down and let me take you home.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Nope. I like it up here.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Talia, you can’t stay up there all night.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sure, I can. Toss me a pillow and blankey and I’ll be all co-cozy.” She leaned a bit farther over the edge.
